As you can tell, we had a wonderful time with our family in the States.

Here were are on Ruthie’s first Birthday.  What a blessing to all be together for this special day!

A Great picture of Steve, Bekah, and Ruthie!  When we weren’t on the road we were able to stay with Steve and Bekah.  We also enjoyed their big back yard, surrounded by forest on two sides.

January 17, 2009 by dlorner

Last weekend we had a visit from two Colobus Monkeys.  They are almost always in the area, but this is the first time they visited our back yard.

Due to Popular Demand

January 10, 2009 by dlorner

Several of you asked for a picture from our front door facing out.  So here it is.  We face the lower end of Kedong Dorm and the back of Kiambogo.  That puts us in the bottom corner of the property, next to the lower gate.  I hope this helps.

We have started the new term.  It is exciting having the girls back.  We have been keeping busy with all the extra things we do.  Last night was a Dorm party.  We had a treat and watched a movie.  It sure is nice having our new furniture and feeling at home in our living room.

Doug has been enjoying teaching again.  This term he only has the one Swahili III class.  He also works the rest of the day in the business office.  The Dorm takes up most of Lisa’s day, but she has been enjoying helping with hospitality as well.  This includes hosting parents in the dorm, as well as other responsibilities around the station.

God Bless you’all!  Have a great day.

Our New Home!

October 20, 2008 by dlorner

Our new home!
Our new home!

Welcome to our blog.  This is a new adventure for us, and we are excited about the possibilities.  We have settled into life at RVA and are continuing to be excited with what the Lord is doing.  We have made two trips to Tanzania, and are beginning to feel at home.

Above is a picture of our new home.  We will be here for at least the next two years.  The bottom left hand half of the building is our apartment.  The right side is the girls kitchen, lounge, and entryway.  The top floor is the girls dorm rooms.  There are also four study rooms in each of the four corners of the top floor.

Also notice the fireplaces.  Most evenings we have a fire going in our Living room.  We have tea set out for the girls most evenings, and encourage them to come in and unwind at the end of the day. The average temperature inside at that time is between 62-65.  Not what you usually think of Africa, and has kept us in warm cloths most of the time.

This last week was Spiritual Emphasis Week and God has been at work in us all.  We praise His name for what He has done, and pray that the seed that was sown will take root and continue to grow.

We will try to keep you posted with our work and ministry.  Let us know how you enjoy the site.  We would also appreciate any input as far as the layout and content.

Carnival

by dlorner

Here is a picture of our dorm girls before we left for the Student Council Carnival.  It was decided that we would all dress up in the varsity boys rugby jerseys, so  we all got ready, took the picture and then ran up the the gym and made a grand entry.  We ran in yelling and cheering, we then got in a circle and gave a good rugby cheer.  We had a great evening together with the rest of the high school.  We got the prize for the best dressed group.  It was fun to be asked to be included with the girls.
